Health has, for obvious reasons, always been important in a person’s life, but there is a growing trend in alternative medicine rather than visiting their regular health professional. I personally think that this is a worrying state of affairs and below will describe why.

First off, many of these “alternative” practitioners do not necessarily have any formal medical training and are basically charlatans selling snake oil. There have been many examples of this seen on social media where Witch Doctors and Religious Healers have done various dances, waved various powders and burned a lot of incense all as cures for COVID. Needless to say, it did not work and most of the patients later died. A regretful situation, but neither surprising nor uncommon.

Secondly, I believe the condition that is being treated is of the utmost importance when seeking a type of treatment. Something chronic and long-lasting, or perhaps where there is a need for surgery I firmly believe that western, advanced medicine is the way to go. I have had to have four operations in my life so far, and I would much rather go under the knife than visit a crackpot in a hut.

In conclusion, although there are some registered, reliable and effective alternative treatments available around the world, there are also just as many, if not more, unscrupulous people willing and able to prey upon the weak and stupid. So, when put on the scales, I believe on balance it is safer and more advisable to seek the advice of a professional doctor over a new alternative medical practitioner.
